Detailed 5-Day Lake Nakuru & Masai Mara Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya
Your safari driver-guide will be waiting for you at the airport. After welcoming you, he will drive you to your hotel in Nairobi. Check in and relax. Depending on your arrival time, you can choose to stay at the hotel or take a short walk to explore Nairobi city.
Day 2: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, leave Nairobi for Lake Nakuru National Park. The drive takes about 3 to 4 hours. Lake Nakuru is well known for its large number of flamingos and many other bird species, which makes it a popular place for bird watchers.
After checking in at your camp or lodge, have lunch and then go for a game drive to explore the park.
Day 3: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve
Leave Lake Nakuru after breakfast and drive to Masai Mara National Reserve. Enjoy the scenic drive through small towns and the Great Rift Valley. You will arrive in the afternoon, check in at your lodge, and have lunch. After some rest, head out for a late afternoon game drive. Look for animals like lions, wildebeests, giraffes, buffalos, zebras, hyenas, Nile crocodiles, and others. Spend the night at your safari camp or lodge.
Day 4: Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve
Masai Mara is known for the wildebeest migration and is full of wildlife throughout the year. On this day, explore the park fully, including the Mara plains and the Mara River. You will have game drives until sunset. If you wish, you can also go on a hot air balloon ride or visit a Maasai village for a cultural tour. Spend the night at your lodge or camp.
Day 5: Return to Nairobi – End of Safari
After breakfast and a relaxed morning, check out of your lodge. Exit the park and drive back to Nairobi. Your safari driver will drop you at the airport for your flight to your next destination.
