Naishi Airstrip is the only airstrip in Lake Nakuru National Park. If you want to fly to this park from anywhere in Kenya, you will use this airstrip. The flight from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park takes about 30 to 40 minutes, compared to 3 to 4 hours by road.
The airstrip has one runway and does not have an ICAO code. Nearby airstrips include Congrieve Airpfield, Estates Airport, and Mbaruk Airport.
Nakuru National Park was first declared a conservation area in 1957 to protect the birds that gathered around Lake Nakuru, especially flamingos. This was also meant to reduce pollution in the lake and help preserve the bird population.
In 1987, the park was fenced to stop encroachment and poaching. Today, the park covers an area of 188 square kilometers. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an Important Bird Area (IBA) in 2009.
Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s most well-known parks. It is named after Lake Nakuru, a lake found in the Great Rift Valley. The park has three main entry points and is home to many animals, but the large number of flamingos that gather at the lake’s shores is its most famous attraction. These birds turn the lake pink when they gather in large groups.
The park also has high rift valley cliffs, steep rock faces, thick forests, and scenic hills. From some areas in the park, you can see Nairobi, Hell’s Gate National Park, and Naivasha National Park, which are all nearby. A waterfall is also one of the features inside the park.
All these make Lake Nakuru National Park one of the most visited parks in Kenya. Visitors enjoy many activities, including bird watching, camping on rocky viewpoints, and game viewing.
