Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the three premium parks in Kenya. It is located in Central Kenya, in the Rift Valley region. In the 1950s, it was first made a bird sanctuary.
Later in 1968, it was turned into a national park, and the area was expanded to include Savannah plains to protect other animals as well.
Wildlife
The park is known for having a good number of white and black rhinos, which are endangered species. It is one of the best places in Kenya to see these animals safely.
Other wildlife in the park includes zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, elands, waterbucks, reedbucks, and hippos.
You can also find many birds here, such as herons, pelicans, cormorants, storks, and eagles.
Attractions
There are many beautiful natural attractions inside the park. These include Lake Nakuru, which is a soda lake and the main feature of the park. The lake attracts large numbers of flamingos and other birds.
Other popular sites are Makalia Falls, Baboon Cliff, Makalia River, Enderit River, and the Rhino Sanctuary. Visitors enjoy the great views, wildlife, and peaceful nature of the park.
Activities
There are many fun and interesting things to do in the park. You can go on game drives to see animals, enjoy bird watching, take guided nature walks, and visit the rhino sanctuary.
Some visitors also go hiking or take part in hot air balloon safaris for a different view of the park.
Park Entry Gates
There are three main gates to enter the park: the Main Gate, Lanet Gate, and Nderit Gate. Each gate connects to different parts of the park, depending on where you are coming from.
Park Management
Lake Nakuru National Park is managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service. This group looks after the park and protects the animals and land inside.
They also help care for other parks and reserves across Kenya.
